Why did you start running?
Stress relief during a deployment in Iraq. While serving overseas I used running as an escape. The gym was the only "hardened" facility, so we could take off our body armor. I'd just climb on a treadmill, turn up my tunes, and zone out for 8+ miles.
Where is your favorite place to run?
Oddly on a treadmill. I enjoy the mental escape. I completely zone out. I don't need to worry about traffic, keeping a pace, or other hazards.
What is your favorite race ? In the area / out of the area?
The Rock N' Roll half marathon on San Jose. Super flat and fast.
Which race will you do next?
Taji 100 in February.
What, if anything must you take out with you on a run?
iPod. I can't run longer than a couple miles without music.
What is your favorite running quote?
"No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch"
What type of running do you enjoy the most?
If I can find the time, hills on a dirt trail.
What do you think of while running?
Most of the time I completely zone out. It's almost a zen type thing and meditation.
What are your favorite snacks while on the run?
If its a long run, I drink sports drinks and much on trail mix or peanut butter.
If you could run anywhere in the world, where would you like to go?
Mountains of Japan.
What tips or advice would you offer new runners?
Stick with it. Just like anything in life, it takes practice. How much practice? When you feel that runners high for the first time... You'll never stop. Set goals. Near and far. The feeling of accomplishment from achieving those goals will motivate you to set even more of them.
